Das 30 cachoeiras mais altas do mundo, 10 estão na Noruega, segundo o Banco de Dados Mundial sobre Cachoeiras. Muitas delas conectam montanhas a fiordes, enquanto outras deságuam em rios, mas todas são parte integral das paisagens diversas do país.

Muitas das cachoeiras mais exuberantes ficam no sudoeste do país. A melhor época para visitá-las é o período entre maio e junho, quando o degelo das montanhas eleva o nível das águas ao máximo.

Vettisfossen, de 275 metros, é a mais alta cachoeira de queda livre da Noruega. Ela também foi considerada a mais bonita pelos leitores do jornal norueguês Dagbladet em 2014.

Langfoss é outra queda d’água espetacular. Suas águas percorrem 600 metros pela encosta das montanhas até o fiorde de Åkra. As cachoeiras mais altas da Noruega chegam a ter alturas superiores a 800 metros.

O país também tem quedas d’água como a Vøringsfossen, a atração turística mais popular da Noruega em 2006, e as De syv søstre, ou Sete Irmãs,  situadas em Geiranger, chamadas assim por lembrarem  os cabelos de sete mulheres. A imponente Kjosfossen é um dos muitos destaques da Ferrovia de Flåm e, durante a alta temporada, no verão, atrizes vestidas como Huldra, uma criatura mitológica do país,  dançam e cantam em frente à queda d’água.

Para os noruegueses, as cachoeiras representam mais que uma oportunidade para tirar uma boa foto. A maioria das quedas d’água do país é convenientemente utilizada na geração de energia elétrica e garante o abastecimento de muitas indústrias locais.
