Do you know how life in the sea looked like 150 mill. years ago? Here on Svalbard you can see this with your own eyes becuse the animals living at that time are now fossils in our mountains.
Do you know how life in the sea looked like 150 mill. years ago? Here on Svalbard you can see this with your own eyes becuse the animals living at that time are now fossils in our mountains. After a nice boattrip in our open Polarcirkle boats we arrive Deltaneset. Here we go ashore and start our walk up to the fossils. Now it is time to look for fossils, and for the lucky one to find one you can bring it back home.
The fossil hunting will take place in the same area as where Øglegraverne, a team from the Natural History Museum in Oslo, have during their excavations the previous years, uncovered three specimens of prehistoric reptiles - two Plesiosaurs and one Ichthyosaur.
We will pick you up at your accommodation, brief you and dress you up in floating suits before we head out in an open Polarcirkel boat to Deltaneset. From the shore we will have an easy hike for approximately one hour up to 200 metres over sea level, where we will start to look for fossils.
Before returning to the boat and back to Longyearbyen, we'll have a light meal and a hot drink.
This activity is not recommended if you are pregnant or have lower back problems. It is not suitable if you have limited mobility, due to uneven, slippery and steep terrain.
